ASSESSMENT OF THE REFRACTORY AND PLASTIC PROPERTIES OF CLAY MINERAL DEPOSITS IN UHONMORA, OWAN WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IN EDO STATE , NIGERIA

In order to assess the plastic and thermal behaviour of clay mineral deposits at Uhonmora, Edo State, Nigeria, chemical, mineralogical physical properties were evaluated. The results study showed that consisted phyllosilicate minerals such as kaolinite, illite clinochlore; other present quartz, sanidine high, geonalite, diaspore lepidocrocite. exhibited moderate swelling characteristics medium plasticity; linear shrinkage apparent porosity within accepted values for refractory clays. It is reddish-brown colour on account presence coloured iron also good shock resistance refractoriness above 1200oC. reflection combined effects non-clay constituents. revealed studied had can be used operating temperature conditions 1200oC.
